YOU GOT SERVED!

29 07 2008

If you were one of the 150+ volunteers that came out to Servolution on Saturday then you got to see first-hand how many lives were touched. If you didn’t make it out, here’s what you missed: 2500+ bottles of water, 200 burgers, 100 bags of groceries, 300+ families clothed, 10+ yards cleaned, curbs painted, 60+ cars washed, and too many other items to mention.

This is what else we did: prayed for people, offered hope, fed the hungry, healed the sick, visited widows, played with orphans, united churches, shared the Gospel, cleaned neighborhoods, remembered the forgotten and demonstrated Jesus-style serving. Hundreds of volunteers reached out and touched thousands of lives. Our mission was to share the love of Christ is practical ways with ONE heart, as ONE church, for ONE city, on ONE day and that is what we did!

Servolution was a great day, but it’s just the beginning. We have the ability to make every day Servolution in our own lives. We don’t need 2500 bottles of water; we can start with one bottled offered to a co-worker. We can pay for a stranger’s coffee, invite a new friend to dinner, cut the neighbor’s yard while we’re cutting our own. There are dozens of opportunities to show the love of Jesus every day…we just need to watch for them. Serving others doesn’t have to be an outreach; it can be a lifestyle. Let’s live it!

IT IS HERE!

25 07 2008

We are T-minus 10 hours and counting, and we are ready! Thank you to the dozens of people who have sacrificed their time and energy this week to pull off the biggest serving day in the history of this city. All week volunteers have been flooding our campus sorting clothes, bagging food, making banners, passing out flyers, calling volunteers, cutting cards, donating money, and most of all fasting & praying. We know God’s hand has been on this project since the beginning. Tomorrow the love of Jesus will be unleashed on a city like never before, and churches will partner together like never before. May God give each volunteer divine encounters with the hurting, lost, broken, forgotten, abandoned, abused, neglected, needy…

MAY THE SMILE OF GOD BE ON JENNINGS TOMORROW!

SERVOLUTION INSPIRATION

17 07 2008

Servolution was birthed out of a church in Baton Rouge called Healing Place Church, led by Pastor Dino Rizzo. This church is insane when it comes to serving. At Our Savior’s Church, our heart has always been to serve the hurting and needy, so we instantly connected to the vision of Servolution. We called HPC to find out if we could host a Servolution in Jennings, and the HPC staff were ecstatic about helping us. They were actually in the process of putting together a Servolution packet for other churches. Pastor Dino is also writing a book on the whole vision of Servolution. Check out this article from Pastor Dino Rizzo of Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge.

Servolution is our culture at HPC. It is 365 days a year for us, but we also have one-day Servolutions where we just blow it all out. Our intent is to blitz our community with such a sudden, overwhelming army of people serving in dozens of ways in every part of our community, showing the love of Christ through serving.  And we aren’t the only church with a passion for outreach. A quick look around you and you can see that there’s a ton of ridiculously cool outreach ideas that churches are doing today. I’m continually reminded that some of the best outreach ideas are simply what God told us to do in the Bible - pure and simple:

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.  - James 1:27

There’s another truth in all of this that should not be overlooked. A large part of our strategy for fulfilling the great commission – to go into all the world and make disciples – is to engage new believers in outreach. This is what Jesus did originally with the twelve disciples – much of what He taught them came in settings where they were serving together.

And when people serve together, they grow together. As Christ-followers, we actually need to serve. Serving is not only for those whom we serve. When we are expressing the love of Christ to others, we ourselves are refreshed and strengthened.

What makes an outreach worthwhile in the Kingdom is not whether it is a new idea or not.  It isn’t a contest to see who can do the craziest outreach. What is important is how outrageous the love is that is shown in the outreach. The love Jesus shows us is utterly ridiculous. Check out what Paul wrote to the Philippians: “….He gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being….”

Because Jesus loves us with such an outrageous love, how much more should we love the forgotten, rejected, alone, poor and hurting people in our world? And may the God whose creativity gave us the most outrageous outreach strategy of all also give us creativity in our outreaches – so that others will experience the outrageous love of Jesus.

That’s Jesus style serving. That’s original outreach. That’s Servolution.

TEAMING UP

16 07 2008

We’ve seen God use Servolution to spark conversation within churches, businesses and organization around the area about how we can continue to work together to get even more accomplished. We’re thinking about how this can become a reality for the Church, and that’s where you come in.

We’d love to hear your ideas. If there’s one thing we’ve learned during this season, it’s that big things can happen when we team up—not just in carrying out plans, but in crafting those strategies together. What’s the best way to connect churches who want to continue sharing resources? How can we combine efforts on a regular basis to be even more effective in revealing God’s love? Get creative, think big, and let us know what you come up with!

SATAN & THE CHURCH

12 07 2008

Pastor Craig Groeschel of Lifechurch.tv interviewed Satan to find out how he keeps the church divided. As churches partner together for Servolution, this funny video will give you a sneak peak into how Satan divides the church. Tell us what you think. It’s funny but sadly true. (quick side note: This is not really the devil!)

MAKE US ONE

9 07 2008

Here is Jesus’ prayer from John 17:20-24
My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

• We pray daily to Jesus asking Him to answer our prayers.
• What if we became the answer to His?

Pause for a moment… Think about Christ’s Church. (By Christ’s church, I mean every living believer.) Think about the resources God has made available to us. Consider the money we control. Consider the talent, gifts, and passion of perhaps 2 billion people. Now consider the needs around the world. What do you think God could accomplish through a unified church? What if we stopped talking about Jesus and instead displayed His love through a unified and global biblical community?

I’d sincerely love to hear what you think would be possible!

SPREAD THE WORD!

2 07 2008

There is a significant amount of enthusiasm from the church community for Servolution, and so many of you have asked how you can help. (Thank you!) This is what we need you to do today:

1. PRAY

2. REGISTER

If you are going to participate, we need you to sign-up. We’ve been blown away by the response so far, and it is important that we get a good idea of who will be participating so that we can appropriately plan for the logistics in such a short period of time. Contact us at info@servolutionla.com to get involved!

3. PROMOTE

We don’t want to leave anyone out that wants to participate and, even with the initial response, very few pastors/churches know about this. Don’t assume that everyone knows…they don’t. Please take the time to invite your networks of relationships to join with us all. It can also be a great opportunity to build new relationships in our community. Right now there are a handful of churches participating - There can be dozens of churches and hundreds of people uniting if all of us get the word out. So please consider linking to http://www.servolutionla.com from your websites, blogs, and newsletters and/or just picking up the phone and calling pastors you know.

It’s going to be incredible…thank you so much for being a part! If you’re blog/website is promoting Servolution, we’d love to know about it. I’d also love to hear about any other ideas that you might have for getting other pastors/churches involved.

PREPARE, PRAY & PARTNER

1 07 2008

As you may know any time you try to advance the kingdom of God, you show up on the enemy’s radar screen. Satan is a mastermind at creating division. So in preparation for Servolution, the Servolution leadership will be fasting weekly. The week before Servolution starts, we will do a total media fast (no tv, no internet, no radio) to spend more time praying. We are encouraging all those who will be involved with Servolution to begin praying and fasting for this event. We know that through this event many churches will partner together more often, because there is power in unity.

We are:
• Asking God to build bridges between churches in local communities.
Praying by name for every senior pastor and church involved in Servolution.
• Writing notes to pastors in our community to let them know that we love them and that we’re praying for them.
Sending offerings to churches other than Our Savior’s Church.
• Initiating strategic ministry friendships.
• Teaching a pre-Servolution message to prepare our church to think about THE Church… instead of “our” church.
• Encouraging pastors around the city to do the same and more.

Please tell me about anything you or your church is doing in preparation for Servolution!

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

26 06 2008

Even though Servolution will be only a one day event, we hope that it will spark something within our hearts to give & serve others with no strings attached. God has created each one of us with a unique calling to give and serve others because that is a reflection of His heart. I heard the quote, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life but what we give?” Even secular TV shows like “The Big Give” and “Idol Gives Back” are understanding that giving is the only way to live. But God is not calling us to give just a one time gift, He is calling us as Christ followers to live a life of giving. I’m curious…What causes are you passionate about?

• Serving people unnoticed

• Helping new moms

• Feeding the poor

• Assisting widows

• Spending time with the elderly

• Raising up strong men of God

• Empowering women

• Preaching the gospel

• Intercessory prayer

• Helping those suffering from addiction

• Visiting those in prison

How are you currently fulfilling your God given passion? Tell us your story.
